This set of prints comes as part of the New York: Columbus Edition

This premium edition is limited to the first 100 units of New York (numbered 0001 to 0100). It features five 16” x 20” limited edition silver gelatin archival prints from some of the greatest and most collectible names in twentieth-century photography. From the set, prints by Evelyn Hofer and Jerry Schatzberg are individually hand-signed by the photographers, while the remainder are posthumously endorsed with a custom archival stamp. This edition is a truly unique collector’s piece with significant investment value. The featured photographers are:

1. Berenice Abbott (1898-1991) Museum of the City of New York.

Abbott’s work is a historical chronicle of the architecture and urban design of Thirties New York, and captures many now-destroyed buildings and
neighbourhoods. Photographer’s highest auction value to date: $50,000.

2. Jacob Riis (1849-1914) Museum of the City of New York.

Famous for using photography as a tool to promote social reform, Riis’s seminal book How The Other Half Lives inspired wealthy philanthropists to reform the city’s slums. A print of the featured image fetched $1,300 at auction in 2005.

3. Weegee (1899-1968) International Centre for Photography.

Weegee was famous for documenting the crime and street life of the city. He worked mostly at night, listening to police broadcasts and often beating them to the crime scene. Photographer’s highest auction value to date: $31,000.

4. Jerry Schatzberg (b. 1927) Direct from the photographer.

Schatzberg’s Sixties photography featured in Vogue, Esquire, Glamour and Life, capturing the generation’s most notable artists, celebrities and thinkers. Photographer’s highest auction value to date: approx. $3,000.

5. Evelyn Hofer (b. 1922) Direct from the photographer.

Hofer’s eclectic career spans over forty years, and includes work for Vogue and Bazaar. Her photographs are featured in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Houston Museum of Fine Art, and in the private collection of David Rockefeller, Jr. Photographer’s highest auction value to date: $2,390.
